I've been learning java and not C# lol but I think its because userinput is considered a local variable, for you to be able to use it in the while statement you'd have to make it a class variable or something I hope that helps!

I would really appreciate it if someone could please go into detail about Java Access Controls. I know what they are but I am having trouble putting my mind around the different uses of each.

That's really well thought out for a thought right before bed! I like the upgrade age feature as well but if your doing pvp then maybe moving them into a new group when they upgrade so there not just destroying the new players, but over all this sounds like a good game!
