Re: FF7 Style game through browser
Considering that FFVII's 3D graphics look quite dated and boxy now, it probably would not be an issue to get 3D of that quality running in a browser.

Re: Outsourcing
Well, I am assuming the service is for developers who can't physically make all the models they need fast enough. Say, if you want 500 models done in a month or twohallsofvallhalla wrote:$500 for a vehicle huh, I think as a indie I would charge myself $30 an hour and have one done in 16 - 20 hours

Re: Basic Getting Started Tools with C++
I am sure there is a free stand-alone debugger out there, but I am not aware of any. Honestly, if you begin using a full-features IDE, it is very hard to go back to using more simple tools. If you get an IDE that will complete your code while you are still writing it, tell you about errors before yo...

Honestly, I rarely do any game programming these days. I spend most of my time learning new APIs, platforms and techniques, so books never get old

Re: Flash gets hardware acceleration
I keep saying no to IE8 (since I don't touch IE and don't want to bother with it), but it seems to be getting more insistent on Vista. Normally it is just "check no, ok done". But last time I had to struggle with it for a few seconds to say no. I am worried it will soon start making threat...

Re: Basic Getting Started Tools with C++
Ohh, I just meant the basics like when you said the "rudimentary starting out" stuff. GPU effects are definitely not basic. I know what you mean about book prices. With each paper book costing about $25 - $60, a solid collection with enough info to get anything done is going to cost you an...

Re: Flash gets hardware acceleration
Silverlight is installed an just about every single windows machine now. New windows updater likes to install it :). So the whole is it on my machine or not isn't so much of an issue really :). Really? I didn't think Windows updater got Silverlight automatically. On my Windows XP machine, I accepte...

Re: Flash gets hardware acceleration
I think eventually Silverlight and Flash will be pushing neck and neck. But for right now, Adobe has an incredible saturation of computers loaded with the Flash plugin. While downloading a plugin does not sound like a big deal to your average tech-savy individual, it can be quite a pain to a dial-up...
