And then you go and add a background worker and .net is right back to crunching the app logic into the UI. :D

Re: Different revenue model idea

New fremium model: Cattle class is the main server with the legions of lowlife, while the high rollers get their own private digs, away from the unwashed masses.

Re: Different revenue model idea

I'm going to be an old fart, grodnard and completely disagree with the kids. I see a market here. Not being able to bring avatar capital back to the main server is not a bug, its a feature. Those of you old enough to remember NWN may remember its persistent worlds (they actually are still a few runn...

Re: Phone and Tablet games

I've got that Baldur's gate reboot on my iPad. You can't get it from the Apple store anymore as there was a licence issue between the IP owner and current publisher/dev. That is... well, it's Baldur's Gate. On my Note 2, I've got Ingress. I checked it out, because it is the augmented reality game. T...

Re: Some good C# Game Engines

How is that delta engine? I've been working server side for Magicus Occultus... well really on the design time tools, (which are all in c#, with a bit of Python to use PyEphem) and I'll soon be turning to the client side for the first test rig. I was thinking of using one of the javascript, write on...

Re: Indies on Next-Gen

My $0.02. Forget " next gen " if you are a low budget indie. A low budget indie will never, ever be able to run in that market. Triple A developers invest two man weeks into a single asset, probably nailing the model in the first day and then fiddling with shaders for the next 9 to get it ...

Re: Magicus Occultus

Things are going well! I've got a monster SQL schema. It is something like 90 tables; and this is just for the game itself and not things like player management. I did not do the local SQL Server thing for long and am now running an an SAP Hana Cloud columnar database. Connecting with an odbc client...

Let's see your dirty hacks!

here's mine. ;) When you are programming in VSTO, Microsoft uses a singleton pattern for the current document. In the case of Excel, it is ThisWorkbook. This singleton object is a great place to stuff information that you want to... oh let's call it what it is... its a great place to abuse the singl...
