Re: My mmorpg project

For the html/css you can try w3schools or just google and you will find many tutorials. For the PHP and how to you can start here : http://indie-resource.com/forums/viewtopic.php?f=33&t=1543 , Hallsofvalhalla has made some great video tutorials which show you how to create a browser MMO. Once yo...

Re: My mmorpg project

Better chance of keeping a team together for a few months. Honestly, if you are making a text-based game (and most browser-based RPGs are), you really don't need a team at all if you are at least decent with web development (which isn't that hard to learn). For my project, I just downloaded a basic...

Re: My mmorpg project

What everyone is trying to tell you is : 3D MMORPG Need to be an experienced coder in a language like C++. Takes YEARS to develop a good one ( and by your comments you want a good one ). Extremly difficult to keep a team together to accomplish this. Not a good choice for your first project. Hosting ...

Re: What are your current projects?

I was just wondering, what is everyone else doing development wise? Are you learning php and extending the tutorial game? Or are you working on the amazing mmo an you're not telling anyone? Or have you quit/suspended your project? Pax. Having worked through the tutorials and building slightly on th...

Re: Leet gear for great justice?

I agree with you, I am really not sure what the point is. Yes there is a certain kind of thrill in finding a certain item, but not like in WoW where every person your level will have nearly identical items. What I find even more mind boggling is the amount of people who enjoy repetitive games click,...

Re: f2p to p2p

I agree that mirco-transactions are dissimilar to subscription, but by switching to a micro-transaction (mt) model, the mechanics of the game need to adapt. Failing to do so could result in a negative trend in profits. Analysts have shown that if many MT options are presented, profits go down. Anal...

Re: f2p to p2p

Both Good responses.

I do find it very interesting that a game like LOTRO is able to change to a restricted access system. DDO already seemed more suited for this, im impressed they are able to do this with LOTRO.

f2p to p2p

I was thinking about all the free to play games around and the games which are going free to play. This has raised the question in my mind, which model is better today? Personally I think free to play is the way to go (with micro purchase revenue). There are tons of F2P games out there, many have be...

Re: Age of Magic Online

1. It is a business, dont forget that. That is how all the biggest guys got to the top, amazon and google as an example where others have failed. During the internet bubble, websites that "forgot" they were running a business were the first to fail. Lack of clear marketing plans and abuse ...

Re: MMO / Facebook Integration

Zygna games will be making $290 million this year. It is purported that they sell 50000 tractors a week at $20 a pop.

So based on those facts, I really like facebook. :D

There is alot of opportunity, and there is something to be said to expose your game to such a huge potentional player base.
