Missouri? I thought you lived in Arkansas for some reason... I live in Kansas. My dad took me out on an old country road in his '58 chevy pickup (standard) and tried for hours to teach me to drive a stick. I could never get the hang of it.

A week later, my woodshop teacher had me run an errand for him in his truck and it was a standard. I just got in by myself and drove it without thinking about it and did just fine. I think it was the fact that my dad was glaring at me that made me a bit nervous :)

I live in Arkansas! But I'm from Colorado. When I turned 15 (back in CO), my dad took me straight into the city and said, alright, your turn. I said, "What?!" Anyway, we changed seats. This was a '95 Subaru Legacy wagon, 5-speed. As soon as I put it into reverse, I took out a sign, lol.

I think I had about 8, so a total of $2800. I've heard others need almost double of that before they're allowed to graduate.
Wow! It costs you $30 in Texas, and that is all you have to pay. How are kids supposed to afford that over there? Is it just assumed that their parents have to pay for it? If your parents won't pay for it, that would stink to have to work a job all summer just to get your license and then have top save up for a car :P

Well, first off you'll have to be 18 to get the license here, from 16 you're allowed to drive if you have someone at least 25 years old next to you, who've had the license for 5 years.

I took my license when I was 20, really had no use for it until then. But yeah, the government want the "kids" off the road, so it's quite expensive. I think I could say we have amongst the most restrictive policy in the world when it comes to licenses, and probably one of the most expensive too.
