Factions - Brainstorming session

Post by kaos78414 »

I'm having trouble coming up with ideas for Factions. I've decided that (at least for this alpha version) I am going to integrate a faction feature.

When a player creates a family, they will be prompted to choose a faction, and each faction will have some aesthetic benefits and possibly other differences I will figure out later. Here is a short list of some differences between the factions:
- The game has multiple races, but players will only be able to choose the human equivalent. Each faction may be allied with a few different NPC Races.
- Certain major cities specific to each faction; IE each one has a capitol city or main hub of activity.
- Faction rewards will include special tabards and decorative items
- Reputation gains with certain groups of NPC's may be increased, depending on faction
- Starting areas may be different for each faction
- Unique flags, symbols and architecture

I want to have four total factions, the problem is I'm burnt out on ideas right now. I came up with some names and small descriptions awhile back, but I'm not sure how I feel about them. I need some feedback :p

The Eldorei - Mostly live on a chain of islands. Lots of harbors, boats etc. They are allied with a race of water elemental beings (that I haven't thought of a name for yet, but I have some concept art)

The Foxear Clan - (The name was actually inspired by my love of Firefox :P) This clan lives in a very natural area, lots of lush forests and green architecture. They are allied with an elf-like race.

The Kai-Ara - This faction inhabits a desert area, with Arabian style architecture. They have access to some unique mounts (like these desert Lizard type things I thought of).

The Briree - The starting area for this faction might be high in the mountains, and their home city is actually a floating island (I know, not very original, but I love floating cities).

Anyway, let me know what you think, and if you have any suggestions or ideas, or know of any thing I might be able to draw inspiration from, let me know.
