Well I should be getting a new laptop! But there is 2 that I can't choose between. These laptops are in my price range, so I can't go any higher.

I currently have a Toshiba laptop and it has done a great job! No serious errors at all. But its old now.

I would lean toward the compaq...because isn;t the i3 core suppose to be really good? lol
But I hae read and heard that hp's aren't that great with malfunctions and stuff.
And I'll probly want 4GB's of RAM, but have read that a 32 bit O/s doesn't use all of the RAM, which the Toshiba has.

So yea.. I'll probably go the compaq but I'm not sure yet

Well I bought a compaq presario CQ60 last year(it has an AMD Sempron 2.1 GHZ processor, 3GB RAM DDR 2, 160 GB HD and a NVidia 8200M G 512 Mb video card)
The only issues I had with it were the drivers,because it came with windows vista installed and I wanted xp and online they had drivers only for vista and windows 7.
But I've contacted the online support from hp and they helped me out.
So in the end I would say that the compaq presario is a pretty good series of laptops....but this is just my opinion.

That Compaq seems very expensive for the specs. While the one I just bought 6 months ago was a Gateway, it was a Core i5 430M (big step up from the i3) with 4 GB RAM, 500 GB HDD, 17.3" display, Dual-layer DVD-RW drive with webcam, multi-card reader and HDMI output jack for $689. Of course Gateway is no Viao, this line of laptops (NV series) has been great so far, and it has good reviews from tons of people on Amazon and other places (keeping in mind that laptops and computers never get above 3.5/4 stars when they have hundreds of reviews).

Here is a pretty nice one with all the specs mine had, plus an ATI Radeon 5650 video card (mine only has an on-board Intel chipset, since I don't do anything graphic-intensive with it). It has twice the specs of the Compaq, and is $100 less. Of course, here are many more choices in Gateway NVs if 17.3" display would make it too big (it can be a pain to carry around, but more than makes up for it when using Visual Studio or Dreamweaver).

Of course if your mind is set on the Compaq, you should order it right from the company. For the same price, you can get a much better rig here on their site. It includes an i5 processor, 4gb RAM, 500gb HDD, ATI card, Blu-Ray ROM and DVD-RW combo drive for $899.

not going to say more than I have had nothing but trouble from Compaq and very little customer support. Many of their laptops had design flaws that they never fixed.

I haven't had any experience with their laptops, but I do have a Compaq desktop that has been great. I had very limited funds to upgrade last year, and my local Microcenter had one that would fit my gfx card (9800 GT) for very cheap with decent specs. It has been great, but again, that is a desktop.

yep i have a Compaq desktop also but it is a older one used for goofing or multiplayer lan and it has been a good PC. I am only referring to their Laptops.

HP laptops seem to fall apart. Sony Viao is the toughest laptop I have seen.

They are also one of the most expensive for the specs. They may be good, but it is hard to justify the price since you get about half the specs of other brands for the money. My ~$650 Gateway laptop would have cost at least $1200 from Sony.

I got the compaq, and its running quite nice thus far. First time i've used Windows 7 lol.

I finally bought my Laptop today. I quickly browsed through those laptops you posted, and for an i3 I think $899 is quite expensive.

Here's the laptop I got:

I know it's in dutch so here's basically what it's got if you can't read it:

• Intel Core i5 430M / 2.26 GHz ( 2.53 GHz ) ( Dual-Core )
• RAM: 4 GB DDR3 SDRAM 1066
• Gaphics: ATI Mobility Radeon HD 5470 1GB
• Monitor: 15.6" TFT 1366 x 768 ( WXGA )
• Hard drive: 500 GB 5400tpm (I would have prefered faster, but I guess on a laptop it would use more battery, If it's slow I could always get a raptor XD)

All of that for €649 around $850.

That is basically what mine was, except I did not get the ATI card, and instead went for a larger display for $680.
