Unity and 3d modles
Unity and 3d modles
Ok i'm downloading unity right now but i need to know some stuff about it from people who use it. My first question, can you make 3d modles on the program or do you need to import them. I curently use blender for my 3d needs but i'm always looking for a more efficent way to get work done. I don't mind importing though, i've had to do it with other game engines.

Re: Unity and 3d modles
Unity will only import the models. There are a few tools in Unity that allow you to create a sphere and a Cube. Otherwise you import the model as a .fbx from Blender or you can import from MAX either the .fbx or .3ds file.Dizuki wrote:Ok i'm downloading unity right now but i need to know some stuff about it from people who use it. Once you import the model, there is nothing to really piece together, except for the UV Map of course. It imports it straight in as one object, not pieces. If I understood that right.

Yes. When you put together a game or application using Unity Indie (now known as just Unity), you can do whatever. The rights are yours. You can sell and distribute. The only thing you cannot do is remove the Powered by Unity splash screen. But you can do a lot with the free version.
Unity's slogan is if you can dream it, Unity can build it. With patients and learning, there isn't much Unity cannot do. What it cannot do, I don't know. I been using Unity for about a year now and love every bit of it. Take a look at my projects in project tier 1. Undiscovered and OuterNet, both of which are being done with Unity.

Re: Unity and 3d modles
So it should make createing a game easier then just useing blender and codeing with darkbasic or python? I'll need to watch some tutorials i geuss. Its good to know that our modles on blender wont be wasted.

Oh yes, creating a game on Unity is much faster! I love it and don't plan on changing game engines. In fact, as soon as I can I want to purchase the pro version.

Both projects that my team and I are working on, are MMO's. However Undiscovered has been put on hold for OuterNet, as you can see in the screenies that I have posted. You can see why Undiscovered is on hold.
You can use the built in networking with Unity, or Smart Fox Server Pro (free up to 20 users) and photon (trial based). There might be many more, but those are the ones I have heard of. We are using Smart Fox Server Pro.
