What would you like to see in a space game?

Post by rockinliam »

I have been building a space game that all about players managing planets, building up resources, levelling up buildings and doing research so as players can construct an armada of ships to defeat their foes with. Think oGame style. I want to build a more compelling experience for players so i want to know what kind of features and mechanics you would like to see in a pbb space game?

controlling the planets and the inhabitants of that planet meaning something, population, rebelling, resources, ect.. Heroes coming from planets and having abilities based on the planet.

To add on to what Halls said. You could have all of the planets have random attributes past the initial starting planet. Some plans could have a super rare attribute or perk to it. It will force players to fight and play politics for control of it.

Some planets may have a research bonus for have extra pure air or they could have increased building speed due to decreased gravity.

An ending.

Alot of browser games have rounds, which last a number of weeks, someone wins the round, then the whole thing resets. That.

In terms of specific to space, I think I'd like to see political groups on planets, each pushing for a way off life - like maybe they go for heavy augmentation, or they want to take recreational drugs all the time. On each planet there are atleast two clashing political forces and as a player, you have some influence over which one becomes the dominant political force on that planet.

I know there are millions of different game design configurations out there, and I bet it does work great and add to some designs I am not aware of, but for the most part I feel if you have to reset a persistent game every so often to keep it going, you need to reconsider your design.

For full resets, I don't know, but a partial reset is what I was thinking of.

I'm not exactly thinking of a simulationist "It's a real, persistant world" thing.

If I was, I'd dump all the stuff is simply gaming stuff; building up resources? Leveling buildings? Constructing an armada of ships to defeat foes? C'mon, this is forcing chess like/board game like stuff into the game, not really playing out a world!

And if you are shooting for a chess like BBG yet think resets are a problem...that doesn't work out? Chess and other boardgames are ones which reset.
