Sitemaps, not sire where to put this lol

Post by Torniquet »

Hey peoples :)

I have a question about generating an XML sitemap.

What is the best layout to use?

currently my xml tree if you will, consists of...

Code: Select all

<url>
  <loc>http://www.tapt-in.net/</loc>
  <changefreq>weekly</changefreq>
  <priority>1.00</priority>
</url>
is there anything else that can be added to that? I have searched about the tinternet and come up with squat! (maybe i am looking in the wrong places lol)

opinions would be grand (y) xxx

After looking at the frequency you have me confused. Can you explain exactly how the system generates the sitemap?

I dont know lol, it was created by a free online generator.

I think changefreq is how often that particular page is likely to change and the priority is dependant on the depth of file within your site.

ASP.NET has a good format for sitemaps which are automatically created by the IDE. Of course you don't have to use ASP.NET, but you could basically lift their XML format!

Code: Select all

<siteMap>
  <siteMapNode title="Home" description="Home" url="~/default.aspx">
    <siteMapNode title="Products" description="Our products"
      url="~/Products.aspx">
      <siteMapNode title="Hardware" description="Hardware choices"
        url="~/Hardware.aspx" />
      <siteMapNode title="Software" description="Software choices"
        url="~/Software.aspx" />
    </siteMapNode>
    <siteMapNode title="Services" description="Services we offer"
        url="~/Services.aspx">
        <siteMapNode title="Training" description="Training classes"
          url="~/Training.aspx" />
        <siteMapNode title="Consulting" description="Consulting services"
          url="~/Consulting.aspx" />
        <siteMapNode title="Support" description="Supports plans"
          url="~/Support.aspx" />
    </siteMapNode>
  </siteMapNode>
</siteMap>
