Battlefield 3

Post by Xaleph »

So I bought Battefield 3 yesterday and I must admit, they really improved certain aspects of the game over it`s predecessors! For instance, the SinglePlayer campaign really is a LOT better then previous installments, it actually has a story this time, lol. Graphics are awesome, and I mean, AWESOME. Visually nothing wrong with the game ( some minor clipping issues maybe.. ) but the whole Frostbite engine really promises some good eye candy.

The multiplayer however is not as good as I would`ve wanted it and let`s face it, that`s the reason people buy BF3. Maybe it`s me, but the whole "Battefield" experience is starting to feel more and more like Call Of Duty, meaning more infantry style game play, regular FPS. The cool thing about BF allways was the fact you could do pretty much anything, but armors are down, choppers suck ( all choppers suck since BF2 ) and planes? A laugh if you ask me.. Somehow, the handling got worse, it feels wrong compared to how BF 1942 ( the cool Wake Island planes ) and BF2 ( the F35b).

Oh well, i`m probably gonna stay on for a while, getting the experience i paid for, but all in all, I still prefer the old battlefield installments..

What are your thoughts?

I haven't bought it yet, but reading your review is making me not want to.

I consistently play counter-strike when I'm looking for a very fast paced shooter. When I play CS, it's because I want very fast paced action. CoD for me, has always felt sluggish by comparison. But with Battlefield, I was hoping it would be slow enough pace-wise, that it would feel almost like a war sim. Is that not the case with BF3 multiplayer?

Hmm depends on what you define as a real war sim. Because at its core, its the same shooter bf1942 was. Meaning a complete war experience where everything is possible. You have different options or roles you can play. You can be a jet pilot or a sniper somewhere in the bushes, or a tank supporter or a medic. It`s not as fast paced as other shooters are like CoD or CS. However, CS is not fast paced if you ask me. CoD does feel sluggish from time to time.

However, BF3 is more the tactical game in the genre. Solo play never was a strong point but they improved on that point. It`s all about the MP. The MP rocks, trust me. I suppose you can qualify it as a war-sim like game if you want to.

Yeah, I think I'm just going to get it anyway and try it out. It's the only way I can really know if I'll enjoy it haha.

As for CS, how is not fast paced? In my experience, in the normal, deathmatch and gungame modes, you can't turn a corner without killing someone or being killed. But I generally play with experienced players. If I play with newer players I just stomp them and get bored.

I suppose it can be slow in the normal game mode when its down to you vs the last of the enemy team and he happens to be camping or something. Or you're both chasing each other on opposite ends of the map, going in circles.

Regular TDM is what CS was all about hahaha, in the beginning anyways. So my opinion is based on those (perhaps old) experiences. And i know what you mean by fast paced, I did play CS alot inluding the DM servers, gun games, surf maps et cetera, but it has been over 2 years now.. The last time i logged in, everything changed, ranks, stats etc, all new. But what i mean by "slow" is the fact that once youre dead, you had to wait until the game was over and start fresh. If you were unlucky enough to be terrorist at Dust 2 and you just walked by spawn and you got a headshot after 2 seconds into the game, all you could do is wait up to 4 minutes until the game finishes haha. Good old days though.. because i usualy was that guy sniping with the noob tube AWP... HAHA

Anyway, i recommend you try bf3, its worth the money. Better spend then CoD MW3 if you ask me.. I played them all, but MW3 seems to be a mappack for MW2 with some new content. It`s not true, i know but it feels like Activision could`ve done a far better job with MW3 in my opinion. Then again, why bother changing a winning team right? Oh well, not for me, no sir.

Buy it and i promise you`ll enjoy it. In the beginning, MP can be a little sluggish, because you are a noob and dont have cool weapon upgrades yet, but after a while you`ll get the hang of it. And if you want a cool fast paced game, try the metro servers, you`ll level up fast enough :)

More then any other shooter out there,no doubt. It`s the best shooter of all time even now. Or it used to be anyways. But there should be more then enough servers to play on.

@Xaleph: Ah I see what you mean now. Yeah for scrims I'm usually the first to rush garage in office, or mid in dust2, and if I got killed early enough it did get boring waiting for next round.

And yeah, I'm definitely going to get BF3. But probably not until January, what with Christmas shopping and all; money is tight right now haha.

@Halls: Yeah there are tons of people, even on weird game mods like Warcraft mod. I usually just pick the lowest latency secure server - which is either an office TDM server, or a DM fy_iceworld server. The iceworld server gets my adrenaline going like crazy - you have to be super fast to avoid getting killed since the map is so small. The office server usually has me being more reserved and strategic - but getting team flashed and then killed because of it has ended in me rage quitting a few times, lol
