Re: Indie Game Contest
I honestly have to agree. For $100k, I am sure there is going to be some serious competition going on, and I would say it would be worth going for it anyway if it was not for the entry fee.Jattenalle wrote:There are better ways for indie devs to get noticed...The entry fee is $100
While $100k is not enough to get major commercial studios involved, it would likely be enough to get some mid-sized indie outfits entered. They likely have more resources than your average group of hobbyists can cobble up. I would have to doubt a true hobbyist group is going to take this one.

$100 entry fee! omg thats not in an indie spirit at all. I hate gamestop anyways, they are crooks. Yesterday I went to trade in Guitar Hero World Tour, I have two copies. They have it on their shelf used for $35, they would only offer me $9 for my copy and it was brand new!! They do this to all their games. I read a funny post months ago about a gamestop worker in detriot saying 95% of their trade ins come from crackheads stealing them. They give cash for them even if its only a few bucks.
I am not going to buy any of my games from them anymore.

Yeah, Gamestop sucks:
-Guy brings in used Fable 2-
Guy: How much is my game worth?
Clerk: Only $9 dollars.
-Guy sells the game to Gamestop for $10-
OtherGuy: How much does it cost for used Fable 2?
Clerk: Only $40.
-OtherGuy buys Fable 2-
I mean, I understand making a buck, but damn...

haha yes, hopefully people will get the picture and stop trading in games. Then they will be forced to raise the trade in values a bit. I hear blockbuster has much better trade in values.
Re: Indie Game Contest
I remember when I stopped trading in games, my cousin and I went to go trade in this copy of Crash Bandicoot that we had already both beat. He offered us 9 dollars.
So we are in the game store, and are about to trade it in (we told him if we find something else) so we give him the game. Walk around for a bit, and decide there is nothing in there that we hadn't already beaten and/or didn't want to play.
So we go back up to the desk and get the game back. He had already slapped a 35 dollar sticker on it.
