Planetary Wars
With me waiting on my development box to get shipped in I am in too much of a creative mode so I am working on Planetary Wars again. It is completely being rewritten in Javascript, Nodejs, and MongoDB. It will be a PBBG but with the real time features that Nodejs and socket.io can bring me. Everything down to the login and registration is via websockets. No ajax or PHP. Alot of fun so far.
It will be a space game featuring turn based movement yet a real time world. So you will click to move to new areas but all players and actions will be shown real time. It also features a MASSIVE map/travel system. It will be completely procedurally generated for some fun exploration.

Nice !
Can I invite you to sign up to TOPPBBG.com and feature your game on there?

Re: Planetary Wars
Yes will do once I have something to show.
Re: Planetary Wars
Cool stuff, as always!
Have you ever thought of doing a tutorial on how to setup and use MongoDB for login/registration? That's something that's really lacking out on the web (at least as far as I can find).

Yeah I can definitely do that. It was quite a strange but fun setup.

Re: Planetary Wars
Hey halls, sorry for the offtopic, but what keeps me from using Mongo and Nodejs and all that, is that shared web hosts don't allow that good stuff. Do you know any free hosting for those real time apps and stuff?
Good Luck on Planetary Wars

Re: Planetary Wars
yeah there are some free Nodejs servers around. Can be hard to find sometimes.

My server is like $3.99 a month I think for a Linux VPS which is the same price as a web host. You don't need much. You can host the apps plus the web server all in one and get full control over it.

Re: Planetary Wars
Thanks I'll need to get some revenue to start messing around with it for real. For my current state I think AJAX is good enough pseudo-real-time xD

Quick update. Login system is working. Server and clients are talking, working on map system now. Each Zone has 10,000 locations to visit each with their own stats and will be able to build space stations, mine, and search.
