Magnetic tape is still used a ton in enterprise environments. I am yet to see a company with an IT dept. that doesn't use it. CD-Rs and DVD-Rs both go bad after a couple of years so they are not an option for long-term data storage. That pretty much just leaves tape as a long-term removable data media that isn't stored on a media with moving or eletrically-powered parts :)

What I don't get is how they manage the $30,000 for 1TB of worth of Magnetic Tape. SSDs might overtake MTds in a few years, but ICt will still use tapes: ICT always does things the cool way.

Anyway, (although this is slightly off-topic), why do everyone hate ICT apart from IT people?

Pax.
