Keep it clean but fun.

when you test the port it tells you what port in your router to forward

you now go to piratebay.org and download the torrent file and utorrent does the rest.

And how do I download torrents with it? Is there a download button or something on the page with the file I'm downloading, or is there some special process I go through?
Do you use a router for your internet? If you do, go to www.portforward.com and select which router you have, then it'll walk you through forwarding the ports.

When you go to the torrent page on ThePirateBay or Demonoid or wherever you're getting the torrent from, there's a download link to (I believe..) a .tor file which will automatically open up in uTorrent.

Torrenting is perfectly legal. Torrenting is just the method of downloading from multiple people rather than one centralized server, even Blizzard uses torrents for their WoW patching system. It's just that torrents are one of the most wide-spread uses of pirating though, which is why people think that all torrents are illegal.

If you own the game, downloading it via torrents is 100% legal.

Ok, I started the download... the file's 85.2 MB, that sounds about right for a game that age... and the download doesn't seem to be moving =/.
What am I doing wrong?

Make sure when you download the torrent that it has a lot of seeds (50+ at least, if possible) and as little leechers as possible. The more seeders, the more locations to download from.

Also make sure your ports are forwarded and that uTorrent is allowed through your firewall(s). Torrents usually take a few minute to get up to speed, too.

For that small of a game though (under 100mb..) I'd recommend just getting a link from Rapidshare. It'll download a lot faster and a lot easier. Here's a link to Civ2 Multiplayer Gold.

yes Deluxe is right. Check your port forwarding on your router.

Sometimes even 10 seeds can be a fast download for only 80 megs if they are fast seeders. Also be sure there are not a ton of leechers.

Yep, for something that small you should only really require a few seeders, but read the edit of my previous post. If the download is under 100MB, it's usually just easier to get it from Rapidshare.

Rapidshare says I have to become a premium member to get the file. And that file doesn't say anything about being Vista compatible.

Although I did notice that there was like 2 seeders and 1 leecher...

It's ok if I get a torrent from a different place, right? Or does it have to be thepiratebay?

How does this place look: http://www.mininova.org/tor/1925722
Should I try downloading it from there?

EDIT: Wait, it has no seeders... hmm... and holy moley, the file size is like 285 instead of 80... O_O

EDIT2: And by the way, I'm not using a router...

Uhm..press the "Free User" button and wait like 80 seconds for the download like to show up. And there isn't going to be different versions of the game, they're all vista compatible.

Um, no, they aren't all Vista compatible. I have the game, it just doesn't run on Vista. I'm looking for a torrent of it that runs on Vista.
