MMORPG Project *work in progress*

Have a project in the works but not much media? How about an idea you are turning into a project? Maybe a game design document you want to start with. This is the place.

well i was thinking, of building a sky dome or some scenery with sea in it so it looks like a horizon, but at this moment in time i have collision boxs setup so the players cannot fall off the edge of the map. The map that i have at the moment is mostly a prototype so as i can work out all my problems, like this, earlier rather than later. For example my trees are slightly to small causing players to get stuck in them, so that is something i have altered.

I must say it's rather dull looking at posts here and most (not all) games are made by click'n'make engines. I really detest the fact that one thinks he can develop a fully working MMO without prior experience or funds, even alone.
Some of you need to wake up, sure if this is for hobbies, then I get why you do it. But if you by any means are thinking about going "live" with a project like this, you shouldn't.

Something one man can do without actual game development or years of programming experience is a web game, mmo or flash game. There you go Indie people!

Coming in here and slandering everyones work is hardly an appropriate response to people trying to have a fun hobby. There is a big difference between going 'live' and going 'commercial'. Going live just suggests that you throw the game on the servers and let people play it, going commercial with something like RC I wouldn't recommend but it is possible.

I myself have close to no programming experience and am making a game. I'm not using "click'n'make engines" like you said most of us were, infact alot of the people here have made their own engine (or built off of the engine the admin made). We enjoy new members and appreciate comments, but posts like these that tear peoples hard work down aren't respectable.

Indie people (and Rockinliam in specific because this is his thread/game), don't take this guys advice and give up, make your game, enjoy the process and go live with it.

its comments like this that ruin the indie game scene. If a game is fun then who cares how it was made damn it. You think it takes 5 years of development to make a successful game? I can tell you tons upon tons of success stories from these type of game engines.

Do you honestly think you just point and click to make a game in RC???? You are seriously wrong. For those of us that do work by ourselves we need engines like this. As long as we are making a game we like and our friends like who cares? We are happy. If you do not like it then go write your own engine. I will see you in 5 years with a out of date engine and game. Do not de-rail this topic.

I thank halls, last known hero and spiritwebb for there continued support, but i would just like to say to people who are obviously getting the wrong idea is that im not thinking about this game seriously, like im trying to produce the next world of warcraft cause im not, im just making something for a hobby, n tbh i don't care if anyone plays the end product im just sharing what i have made and what i intend to make this area is called Project showoff tier 1 for a reason, its not finished!

I would also like it id "spawnfestis" would point me out his project :D .

rockinliam: Well, I look forward to seeing you game...and would love to play it when its ready.

Everyone else: This site is one of the BEST...no wait, THE BEST site that has information for indie's to help build their game, recruit people to help. The people here are friendly and wise in their own way, well except that guy...either way...this is what us Indie's needed was home to where we can share, get help, and be excepted for our projects no matter how bad or good they are. I have been to so may sites where people like spawnfestis state that no one can make an MMO without an experienced crew and with over 40 people who are talented and that really kills alot of spirit. Who says that they can't? Disney started off with Mickey Mouse in his garage and formed Disney. Pixar was formed with two guys in their garage. Microsoft was built by one in his garage, etc...the point is, we can do it. We have tons of talented people around here that know so much, and where one doesn't get it, another might and can help the other...thats the I.R. way, the I.R. Family!! Indie's helping Indie's...

Ah, done ranting!! :) Just read my siggy!!
