This site might be relevant: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Usage_shar ... b_browsers

According to it, as of February 2010, these were the figures for Internet Explorer users, who made up 61.58% of all web users:

IE8 - Compatability Mode: 3.63% of all web users.
IE6: 21.18%
IE7: 14.11%
IE8: 22.60%

To my knowledge, everyone only has stats for their own site. Maybe a huge, popular site such as Google could have a fair approximation of all browsers, but even then the numbers would begin to fail for foreign users. There is just no way to have one stat for everyone. It is like trying to make a catalog of what color everyone's underwear is. Everyone will show their underwear to a few people, and those people could even try to get together and make an overall count, but it will never come close to representing everyone.

Considering IE7 and IE8 are out, I would never try to be compatabile with anything older then IE7. IE6 is not even supported by MS anymore...

Just allow for the version that was shipped with XP: IE 6+.

If they don't use XP, vista, 7, or a mac, they are technologically dead.

Or you can take the (annoying as) approach and say: "*INSERT GAME NAME* recommends IE8"

Firefox memory drain is not a bug, its a feature. Basically, you know how you can go back X amount of pages and re-open Y amount of tabs, and then go back X amount of pages? Thats where the memory goes to, using Youtube makes the problem even worse. You can just go to your about:config and change the backtracking options and it will use considerably less memory.

IE was at one point the shit, they were the only ones innovating. But now, not only have they refused to innovate for awhile, they aren't even using standards. IE8 was alot better though, and 9 is supposed to be even more so.

As far as the standards / non-standards thing, I used to be a straight standards guy. But a rant by Joe Hewlitt changed my mind. IF left up to the W3C standard updates supporting features that are widely used now would take many years, so if browsers want to do their own thing while still supporting what is standard then so be it, if its good enough it would even become standard. (I really wish the scrollbar color changing thing stuck, that was by far my favorite thing about IE)
