My small draft of a small game world: Driftwurld

Have a project in the works but not much media? How about an idea you are turning into a project? Maybe a game design document you want to start with. This is the place.

Ah, crud, did I? I hope I didn't do that anywhere else - I've started to realise what a logistical pain in the bum migrations are...thanks for the edit, SW!

Which host did you migrate to/from?

I've implimented a high score system! I think it works!? It updates once per half hour. I'll be posting a rough tutorial with the code for a high score table in awhile.

It also has a system where it only shows the first two letters of names not checked out yet. I really quite hate it when games go to all the effort of having nice graphics and depictions, only to let players have crappy names (ie, not a jot of connection to the fiction, or any fiction for that matter) and display them everywhere. I'm checking them manually in the DB at the moment.

I'm wondering whether to make it that when you log in it takes you to the high scores then you click to homebase, so as to emphasise high scores, or just keep high scores as a button on the homebase screen?

Also implimented the ability to gain these scores (power factor) by only three per hour, so far (ie you play for five minutes, get the points, but then it'll be an hour before you can do so again). You get one point at the end of each paragraph of the story completed.

I know Rastin completed the story once so far, so he's in number one place at three power factor for the moment!

Latter I'll add a lords system that uses the power factor to determine who is promoted to one of the limited number of lord positions for a month!

As for migrating, it was just to a new name and extension on the name, not to a new host. Still 000webhost.

Woo #1 lol. I would just provide a link to it . That way if someone wanted to see they could and if they wanted to keep in the story they could not have to look at it.

I love the part where you have to unlock the story by completing battles it made me play for quite a while but it was frustrating when I lost and then lost all my progress but then it kept me playing :P

edit: there is a bug with your high score I go to it and it keeps saying "Could not update"

Thanks for playing, Zerocomp!!

I think there needs to be some bite to losing of some kind - I could possibly switch it to simply having to wait 20 seconds or so, with no battle loss at all? It's good you kept battling on! But I'm okay with toning it down a bit? What do you think? In the legends of zork browser game you can lose all the gold you collected in a dungeon run so far (but at the same time you can spend a daily action point to bank it all, I'll grant)

I've had that error with the highscores too, but then refreshed and it worked...I tried it then and it worked as well. I suspect it may be a server thing.

Thanks for your kind words!
