About the females in indie game dev, it's not only plausible, but it's a fact. I'm sure you know Vicky Eagle, the developer of the RC MMO "witch gate". Or Jade Raymond, the project leader on Assassin's Creed. Well that's just my 2 cents

Why would a jpeg or an avie be more convincing than any other picture? You can change a picture to a jpeg just by opening it in paint and saving it as a jpeg, and you can make any picture an avatar o_O.
