Re: Avatar
of course it sounds like a Hero's Journey, as does every sci-fi movie ever written. I thought of a movie whee a cop is corrupt, and a good cop stops him. Bam everyone copied from me. Too much like the Diku mud argument. Its so rediculous I refuse to argue it.
I am not a fan of Star Wars. Just have heard the Hero's Journey garbage before.
Just my opinion, nothing more. refuse to argue it.

Re: Avatar
I don't know, I really enjoyed the movie then again i am falling into the younger spectrum of that age generality there. I guess the world of Pandora brought back memories of the world I always dreamed of when i was younger, kinda the world I am trying to duplicate through my writings.
I cried the first time I watched it, I guess I am kinda into the sappy predictable love/hero stories. Halls, I can respect your thoughts to the fullest because you actually watched the movie. I know a few idiots that are bashing the movie and haven't even witnessed an evolution in movie magic which it was in the way that Cameron went about it. Then again in all or mostly all his movies he tried to even go above and beyond and push technology to it's limits.
Maybe this movie he didn't push as hard then when he did at T-2, but it is still impressive and for digital animation this movie was a break through, I am looking forward to the future of Digital animation to some degree.
Also coming up with completely new movies with concepts that have never been implemented into a movie is really hard for a write to do because their minds have been polluted with decades of visual and written media. So they write everything they have ever learned, felt, experience, and sometimes come up with a concept that is unique in a specific aspect, until you get people like everyone on this forum who picks out certain points of the movie and relates it to something different.
The truth is, we are all like this. it is a shame really that some people will never experience most movies because they let their ego, and their logic stand in the way. It is a movie just let go
Thank you for listening, I really just needed to vent

Re: Avatar
I agree completely. I feel if your going to watch a movie, let yourself go in it, to fully experience the movie. The point is to bring you into the thoughts of someone's world at that time.
Its imagination...and people who bash a movie and not even watch it, is just plain wrong. I would like to see them make a movie, with their "talent" and then listen to other people bash their movie and not watch it, after all the hard work and dedication they put behind it and see how pissed they get or give the same reaction of saying "Why bash it, when you haven't watched it?"
Avatar was done really nicely. I enjoyed the movie and look forward to the next two that are in the works...

Re: Avatar
I just saw and it was amazing! The story took a while to understand but the 3D effects were THE best I have ever seen. James Cameron did an awesome job directing and writing this movie I will buy it on DVD when it comes out because it simply the best film I have ever seen.

Re: Avatar
I don't think I will be getting this on DVD until RealD 3D figures out a way to have their IMAX-style 3D on affordable home TVs and monitors. Seeing it with those red and cyan glasses would just be depressing

Re: Avatar
Well Avatar isn't red and cyan, if you really look at the glasses it is a blue and green but it is so faint it looks clear.
Also their is a way to do it at home. get a 3d version of the movie use a projector and wallah big screen that is 3d

Re: Avatar
Actually, the glasses are not colored at all. They use circularly polarized light to feed the image into your glasses so that the opposite angles of the polarization in the glasses will pick up a different image with no color distortion. It requires special polarizing projectors, which at this time run $35,000 and up. It is technically the same idea as the red/cyan glasses, which use color filtering to direct the correct image at each eye, but it is much more technologically advanced.jpoisson wrote:Well Avatar isn't red and cyan, if you really look at the glasses it is a blue and green but it is so faint it looks clear.

There have been several experiments documented online to try to get it to work at home with standard projectors, but they have all failed. If you were to run the RealD 3D Avatar with a standard projector at home wearing the polarized glasses, you would just see the same 2D, doubled image you see in the theater when you take your glasses off because the light of the projector is not being polarized correctly to be filtered by the glasses.
You can check out the "Technology" section on RealD's Wikipedia page for more info, or check out their website.
EDIT: I just mentioned the red/cyan glasses because I am figuring that is how they are going to release Avatar on DVD.

Re: Avatar
anyone got 35,000 for a new projector for me
I take all forms of payment and donations
I doubt that they will release it in red/cyan. It would lose it's 3d brilliance. they will probably just release it normal.

Re: Avatar
I really couldn't see them releasing it normal. While red/cyan (or any other colored filters) would be depressing for Avatar, people will be very angry if it doesn't come with some kind of 3D. Plus, 3D DVD releases almost always include a non-3D version either on the other side of the disc, or on a 2nd one.jpoisson wrote:anyone got 35,000 for a new projector for meI take all forms of payment and donations
