Does anyone know of any free downloads for microsoft publisher? Preferably legal ones, since the college can probably see everything I do?

All the downloads I can find either seem to be "free trials" that require you buy it later (for a ridiculous price) or you have to be a member of the site.

I mean seriously, this program is supposed to come with the computer... this laptop is the first microsoft-made computer that I've ever seen that doesn't come with all of the microsoft office programs...

Wrong, it comes with the Microsoft Office Package (Professional, Small Business, Professional Plus, and Enterprise editions). What makes you think they would give it away for free? ;)

I think it used to come with Microsoft Office Standard in the 97 or 2003 edition tho.

cough *torrents* cough

Without torrents a lot of companys would start struggling, mainly because the younger generations wouldn't be able to afford such programs as adobe flash, photoshot, dreamweaver. Flstudio. recording and mixing software. Even stuff like Realm crafter and FPSCreator. because people wont be learning these pieces of software so therfore not entering and profession that require these pieces of software. Also its a great try b4 you buy, cause ive bought loads of stuff that ive torrented, and its great for people (mainly kids) that can't afford stuff. And they earn plenty of money anyhow! rawr sorry about my little rant. Although stealing an object is wrong i don't think pirating is anywhere near as bad, its just people sharing their stuff, but buy games and albums, seriously!

also check out openoffice im not sure if they do a publisher style program aswell?

The general idea is that if you don't have the money for something, you don't have it :P

Maybe I was just brought up in a different era (yes, I am probably the oldest one on this board) but I treat pirating software as stealing. You can justify it all you want by saying you wouldn't have bought something anyway, or you're just trying it out, but facts are facts - you got something that you were not supposed to get without paying for it.

If you can't afford something, either work to earn money and save up for it, or go without. If it's that important to you, you'll find the money to buy it legally. And you'll feel better about yourself for doing it.

Just my 2cp :)

Keywords - "not supposed to get." Microsoft publisher IS supposed to come with the computer, although I've heard that in recent computers, Microsoft has managed to strip Microsoft Office off computers due to their near-monopoly on the computer industry. Capitalism at it's finest, eh? Ridiculous. I'm not paying for a program that should be free, at least not at the ludicrous price they have it on.
Oh, and the college I'm at has a stupid rule that prevents students from having a job anyways.

Fortunately, I've found Open Office, which I shall try sometime tommorow...

Microsoft Office is not supposed to come with Windows. They never had anything to do with Office being on new computers or not. Microsoft merely offers special versions of both Office and Windows that computer manufacturers can buy and put on their computers if they want to. Typically, even though a computer will say "Office included", you are paying more for it. Microsoft does not make computers, and is not in charge with what is put on them.

Ye exactly, Microsoft Office has never been a part of Windows. Some computer stores/manufacturers do install it from start tho, but then the computer is often a bit more expensive, so you are paying for it anyway. But if you buy office along with a new branded (HP, Dell, etc.) computer you can, atleast in sweden, get a discount on the office package.

Open office is the way to go people!

And if you were going to torrent any of the office packages (which i havn't cause i think its shit), get the one they dont really sell anymore, office 97/2000/xp or 2003, its the best IMO cause it actually works and isnt as annoying as 2007 version. Christ i hate the ribbon thing!!!!!!!!!

Please don't promote torrenting files for Microsoft or any other software. Please refer to halls post on torrenting talk here: http://indie-resource.com/forums/viewto ... f=3&t=1211 Regardless of how old it is, it is still under copyright and is still considered illegal.
hallsofvallhalla wrote:If you want to tell someone to torrent then do it in a PM not in open discussion. Everyone has different beliefs on torrents but one fact remains. Pirating software IS illegal whether you think it is or not.
