Well I seen where the Wii can be soft-modded and you can do a lot of homebrew stuff. Very kewl stuff. I am going to pick one up right now :)

WARNING: I am not talking about running pirated games. DO not start a conversation about that please unless its in PM form.

I like the idea of homebrew apps on a console and being able to make your own games.

anyone else experimented with this?

I know using just the Wii motes from the Wii you can create a smart board (touchscreen projecter basically).. pretty neat stuff.

My Wii is already modded to allow homebrew..I used the Twilight method.

I havn't actually ran any homebrew on it besides the dvd-player, but I want to at some point..I'm also interested to see if it's possible to run a Unity game (since it can export to Wii) as homebrew..That way I can develop a game for my Wii :D

was also looking at that. Would be neat to run your unity project from the console.

Wouldn't it have to run on an emulator? Isn't Unity designed to take advantage of Windows facilities, which are incompatible with Wii architecture?

Unity is created to use any architecture you export it out for. It can run web, windows standalone, mac standalone, Xbox 360, and Wii all with 2 mouse clicks.

Interesting. I just thought that they sold the Wii version separately due to Nintendo's licensing arrangement, kind of like how you have to prove to Garage Games that you are a licensed Wii developer before you can buy the Wii version of their engine.

Hmm, you may be right.

In order to evaluate or license our engine for use on the Wii console developers must meet the following requirements:

* You must own Unity Pro 2.x
* You must be a an Authorized Developer for the Wii console and obtain a Wii development kit
Looks like you need to be an authorized developer before you can get the exporter for the pro version..Hmm.

Yep, which means you don't have access to the Wii compiler (or a Wii compiled version of the engine; however they do it). The only way to run a Unity game on the Wii would then be to run it in emulated mode, which means it would likely run unplayably slow.
