Look at this, a group of Indie developers who decided to put together a package of their games, cross platform, no DRMs, no middle-man, a "pay what you want" policy, and you can decide yourself if the payment goes to the developers, or a couple of non-profit organizations (or a mix).

From what I've read those charities weren't...involved. Not that you need a charity to agree to be involved in order to throw money toward them. But all the same, they were showing charity logo's without actually getting agreement.

Wait, why not? It makes no difference to the purchasers if the charities are involved or not, really. Provided they are actually giving the money they say they are (which it is pretty high profile, so I am assuming they are), I don't think it matters. My fiancee bought it, and she got the games no problem. The only issue with the charity involvement is that by using their logo, it is implying involvement by the charities, which they were not. If they aren't involved, they should have just said "the money is going to charity" without naming specific groups.

When I read stories like that, it tends to make me nervous is all. And I don't like being nervous when buying something online.

I wish the whole charity thing would get exposed. Do not get me wrong, charities are great and anyone who donates to a good cause is awesome, but there are some real shady tactics being used by charities.

Like this Oil Spill. We had a big band event go on in Gulf Shores and they said all profit go to the clean up of the oil spill. Wow sounds great right? Wrong. They added in a ton of costs and salaries that made the profit line like .05%.

Another instance is how I can put up a Website and send out stickers and flyers asking for donations saying all proceeds go to cleaning up the beach.

I can then take all those donations and pay myself to go pick up cans on the beach for a day.

I agree. There is so much room for shadiness in charities, and most charities take full advantage of it. "Not for profit" only means the company cannot profit; it has to be in the same place it was the year previous. But it sure doesn't mean that the owners can't profit. Even in charities who claim 90% of the profits go to the cause, the owners are often flying around in private jets, flying out to multi-country vacations, etc. It is ridiculous.
