*sigh* 000webhost don't let you run browser games?

I was looking at their terms of service
7. We do not allow online gaming scripts such as ogame, mafia, etc..
Now I know of one game that was put up (which shouldn't have been for another reason) is still there, even after they did their checking over.

So I'm wondering if I just put it up and hey, if they don't like it, they take it down.

I was hoping to do my first browser game step without any financial risk. 'Cause then it'd be fun.

Anyone else have browser games on 000webhost?

Reason they don't allow it is because of abnormal system usage. No Overseller will let you do that. I've made this point several times over :P

Your going to need a dedi or atleast a VPS to really run the game.

They will probably let you slide until you get popular, then they will shut you down and/or charge you a premium for extra resource usage.

with free hosts start the site with a basic web page, no game related material...let them review it within first 24 hours or whatever, then add your game, use it for testing then buy your host when you are ready to go live with public. Hosts are cheap. Why not go with a real host and not a free one after testing? Like Noc said, when you get popular you need to consider a better host.

I'd like to generate some revenue from it befor spending money on it, even if it only earns a fraction of a monthly hosting cost at first. I'm not doing this just for the love of it - it's like growing vegetables in a garden, I want some tangible return from it, not just pouring more money in. Granted what I've put in so far is effort at learning php and coding something and not money so far, but I find that effort as valuable as money.

Hopefully it can atleast do three times as well for impression as my blogs do (which shouldn't be too hard as they get about twenty a day), and yet at the same time stay under the hosts radar detection. Meh, 60 page refereshes or so a day probably wouldn't show up much on their detector, I'd imagine. If it gets larger use in future I will consider a paid host.

I wouldn't really consider $6 or $7 a month (or much less for a year+ in hosting) pouring money into your game. It would be hard to eat at Burger King for that much. Seriously though, free hosts are just not very dependable. You may end up losing the same amount in potential revenue that it would cost for a cheap commercial host due to slow load times, down time, and other issues faced when using a free host. Sometimes you can't start a business putting absolutely no money in to it. It is not a big investment.

Well, as I've said before, if it's not that much money, send a few months of hosting fee through to me via paypal and I'll pay you back latter  C'mon, it's not much! :D

Thanks for the posts, but at the moment I want to primarily focus on making a game that I like to play. I've spent too long producing too little in trying to chase other peoples likes. Currently ad revenue is a secondary concern for the project, but for some reason paying money for this would make it slide towards the first priority.

I'm wondering what sort of temporary page to put on 000webhost until their first check over is done - I don't even have any webpage editors (any suggestions for a free one?). Could just make a simple page, throw a few cute pics up or something. That'd probably do. Edit: Ah yeah, they have a site builder. Also making a free host account lets me practice fiddling about with a domain and it's panels...

All my browser tests that I had uploaded for Undiscovered were on 000webhost and they didn't shut it down, not one bit. Didn't even receive a warning message. Though I set up a forum, and warning message for over usage of tables in a database was issued, I ignored, they shut it down. Then went looking through their TOS and its not listed for over usage of tables...they said I had to many. But all their stuff said is limited to 2 databases, nothing more.

Oh well, I started a new one on the same account, and just left the forum off. They do that cause the forum is only allowed as a premium user. But back to topic, you can run it, but if you start using to much, they will notice and issue a warning. If it continues and they shut it down, you cannot re-open that account. I tried...just an FYI

if we can get enough games getting built I would be happy to buy a domain and a host and let people host their games on it until they could get their own host.

Halls,

Well, if by game you mean a simple game, I'm working on it - basically have the essentials now, but have to make it human readable (ie, humans other than myself can get what the heck I've made!). I'm hoping to have a test run up soon.

Spiritwebb,

Thanks for the first hand account - sounds like they don't mind/don't care if you start out small.
