Hey guys, well im looking for getting my own little laptop but dont have enough to buy a normal laptop. So netbooks are around $300-$500 for new ones and anywhere from $25-$400 on ebay ($25 is for 7 inch ones). I have $200 and am looking to buy a 10.1 inch one on ebay. Anyone have any comments on netbooks and if its worth buying it? I just really want my own laptop that i can put wamp on and write scripts and stuff without my parents yelling at me to "get off their computer!" so if anyone has any suggestions it would be greatly appreciated. thanks!

you can find some decent Laptops for $200. I think you would enjoy a 15" or bigger laptop better than a little net book.

Look for refurbished systems (not used, though). You can get great deals, and often they are used systems sent back to the manufacturer to be detailed and to have sensitive parts changed out for new ones.
Netbooks really are gimicky right now. They can only really do what their name implies (surf the web). Most modern applications will not run in them except maybe Word.

Maybe check
this out. It is $289, so not quite down to $200, but it has a 64-bit processor, comes with Windows 7 (a lot of cheaper ones come without an OS), 3GB of RAM, nice display, and even an ATI 3200 video card.

Well to be honest I H.A.T.E. windows 7. But it looks decent so maybe I'll see if my parents can give me $89 or I'll just make it myself

Why do you dislike it? The only problem it has is running older pre-Windows 2000 software ("Compatibility Mode" is a joke). It is much, much better and more stable than Windows Vista. Windows XP was a great OS, but it is getting quite old, and is being left behind in a lot of modern software coming out. Windows XP support is a major stumbling block for software developers now because it is several DirectX versions behind and the interface has a very hard time running anything besides traditional GDI-style GUI applications, so developers are counting down the days until the Windows XP user base is small enough to stop considering.
When buying a new computer, it is best to just bite the bullet now and get the most up-to-date OS you can, since it is the cheapest you will be able to get the new OS and you want to keep your laptop as up-to-date as possible for the least amount of money. And believe me, once you use Windows 7 for long enough, it will be very hard to try to go back to Windows XP on another PC

Well I like window xp as my favorite and vista as my second because I know just about everything on a windows xp computer and the reason I dislike windows 7 is because it's 64-bit and when I need like java for 32-bit I won't be able to get it which sucks.
