Does any one know how to us models with animations in unity?

Unity's website has some good documentation about adding animation to a model that was imported into Unity.

Also the newer version of Unity, 3.1, has a third person script and model already. You can also learn from this...I myself will have 3rd person view in my project, and this is what I used!
