Hiddenworld - Free RPG!

Some of you might have tried it out before, but Hiddenworld is a free browser based MMO. ^^ I am posting this now because the player base is getting smaller, and we could do with some people checking it out!

http://www.hiddenworld.com

Just click "Join Now" and follow the steps to make a new character! :D When choosing a name, try to choose something that is an actual name, not just a description. Naming rules were pretty strict due to the large amount of players when the game launched, but moderators have started giving a little more leeway now that we have less people playing.

Anyway, here is a quick (and quite humorous) guide on how to get started in Hiddenworld, and what the various places around town are for!

Purchase your armor at the Armor Shop, and your weapons at the Weapon Shop. For players just starting, a Stick is often best so that you can also afford armor. The Weapon Shop is the only registered dealer of quality Sticks. Always remember to equip them in the Town Archives or else they'll be of no use to you.

To gain experience and gold, fight Giant Rats in the forest. Avoid fighting Sewer Rats at level 1 unless you are wearing a lot of armor!

To heal yourself, you'll need to purchase potions at the Item Shop. The Health Drink is a cheap, reliable source of 50 health points throughout all of the levels. Potions may be consumed during combat, or in the forest before entering a fight.

In the bank, you can store the gold you have earned.

The Inn is not only a place to rest, but also a place where you can meet a lot of other adventurers, who may share some of their experiences to help you get started in Hiddenworld.

A good idea is to check all buildings on the town map, in order to find out for yourself which building fulfills what function.
During your first days in this world, many would recommend staying in the town of Suraly, where all travelers begin their adventures. If you choose to leave Suraly before you are truly ready, the lands may be dangerous.

The first few levels can take a while, but the community are pretty awesome, and really make the game fun. Also, if you see any spamming in chat... That's been happening a lot lately, so it would be better to just ignore it until a moderator shows up. :D

Is this actually your game? If so, how old is this game? I saw some notes on the webpage referring back to at least 1997. If so, that may make this one of the oldest PBBGs still running today!

Could really do with individual links instead of using a form - to do one action, clicking on a check box then clicking a second time to go and do it?

And wow, text that is hard aligned to the left side of the browser area? I got knocked for doing that when I started writing my own browser game (Heck, I've been knocked for using a table). Nice to see a game that's simply had that format and still does.

I think, given some of the browser games I've seen with alot of traffic, you should have a chat built into the rat stomping. I'm pretty certain it helps build traffic.

Hamster was good...

Neat game!

Did you notify poster of the move? He might think we deleted it if you did not leave a shadow topic,

Yeah, I have been looking around and have not found a PBBG older than this one. Heck, half-decent server-side technologies were just really starting to emerge at that time, so anything before that likely would have had to be running CGI applications to pull it off. Quite impressive to be around this long.

So would they only have had $_POST back then, no $_GET? So that's why it uses the post structure for commands?
