Another Noob

Post by VampCat »

Hi

I found this site last night after doing a google search for "how to create a browser mmo"....then clicked one of your youtube videos. So far I have downloaded the MMO tuts 1-20 but have been flicking backwards and forwards through them as not everything is relevant to what I am wanting to do, your new RTS tutorials are the ones that really interest me, although I am finding the MMO ones usefull and I love your detailed descriptions of what the code is doing.

I have been starring at PHP code for over 5 years now after I built my first website, but most of what I do is just follow mod instructions of copy and paste segments of code around the place, and until recently I have tried to avoid mysql as much as possible apart from actually creating databases through cpanel.

Apart from playing games as a kid, and dabling in a litle Amstrad basic, I didn't really do anything on the creative side until I started modding the Sims2 game 6 years ago, from there I opened my own sims 2 site (still going strong) then discovered browser MMORTS, namely in the form of Desert Operations.....I later became the Community Manager for Desert Operations for the UK and US until I had a falling out with them over their policies and methods.

My Idea is to create a game similar to desert operations, but have it based purely around the AIrforce, as opposed to all branches of the military......it is a daunting prospect, and I am not even sure I will be caple of creating what I want, but I am going to give it a shot. I have the Graphics side covered, 3D and 2D as that is the kind of thing I do and I am here to learn the programming side of things, which I have already found is helping me understand my site coding as well as game coding.

Happy to be here, think I may stick around as you guys have so much to offer and I am looking forward to the rest of the RTS tutorial videos :D

Welcome! I will basically say the same thing I actually ended up mentioning to the last new poster here! Graphic designers/artists can pull a lot of weight in PBBG development, because there are many more coders than there are artists. You could start your own project and even be the team leader, and impressive art assets made before and shown off in the recruitment ad here can quickly attract coders to the project. Best of luck!
