Well my visual studio is giving me a hard time and i'm about to give up on it. I was wondering if anyone has tried to use monodevlop and xna 4.0 before? Do they go together pretty nicely or no? Any thoughts or experience with mono and XNA 4.0 would be appreciated...

Do you mean SharpDevelop? Mono is an alternative, platform-agnostic version of .NET while SharpDevelop is an open-source .NET IDE. I would much rather get a copy of VS 2010 Pro from WebSpark before going to SharpDevelop. SharpDevelop is workable, but it is a few steps down from any version of VS 2010, and any version of VS would be preferred.
Plus, I don't know if SharpDevelop even supports XNA. A couple of Google searches only seem to find people requesting XNA support a couple of years ago, but I cannot find anything about current support. The thing is, though, is that XNA is much deeper than just some code assemblies. It has a complex asset pipeline and other features that integrate closely with the IDE, so I don't know if support is possible.

Ahhh, I didn't even know there was a Mono IDE lol.
Well, it is even less likely to be compatible with XNA than SharpDevelop. XNA has never been part of the Mono runtime because XNA relies completely on its close connection to DirectX, which is not available on any other platforms besides Windows. So I would definitely not think it is compatible.

You know, if you have a legal license for it, you could always download from torrents or something, and try those installations. The license is the important part, not where you get it from (unless there is something special about the version you download from On the Hub). Just be sure you have a good, commercial anti-virus running

Hmm...it may have been that your problems with Visual Studio were just an early indicator of problems in Windows itself, as Visual Studio has roots pretty deep into the OS. I hope re-installing Windows gets it all straightened out!

I hear you! I have usually liked keeping my VS clean of plugins, because I am always reading tutorials, books and always trying to learn something more about the environment, and plugins just cause discrepancies and confuse things. There are a few that are worth it, but I can still live without them
