Wandering if there is any good free FPS games that I can host a server for some good action fun. By persistant I mean one that would hold stats and things and works well for a 24/7 ever changing type environment.

Working on a Counter Strike 1.6 server that will be 24/7 but counter strike is not free.

I've never played counter strike. Have played quake live against other people once my internet connection got faster (though I was generally just beaten).

When I read the title I thought it might mean features on the map might occur in one game and last into another - say a statue is blasted enough with rockets, it blows up in that game session. But it stays blown up in the next game of counter strike - perhaps being 'rebuilt' after a RL day has passed/midnight (or even better it gets rebuilt over time, like about three stages of the statue being rebuilt).

There is a good fps similar to COD it was called combat arms. I played it for like a month and it was pretty good you get money but also need a higher level to get better weapons.

Is the counter strike code modifiable? Or they don't let you do that?

if you buy it then yes you get source. There are thousands of mods.

I used play a game called Assault cube. Hell I even had a clan going at one point I wasn't very big on any of the guns except the sniper though and a game mode called One shot One kill. Which basically you die in 1 hit and everyone has a sniper and a knife. It was really fun and I had a server going for a little while too. However it is not very modifiable, if your server gets reported for having game changing mods you get taken off the servers "masterlist". In other words you don't show up on the server selection screen however players can still do /connect yourip and join your server
