As I said a couple of month ago, I don't believe EU will stop against any big companies. They did it against MS, and now they are doing it against google. It's a good thing for the people.

I would definitely like to see any search results who have essentially paid Google to get that ranking. I didn't even know they did that

If they are just talking about those promoted links at the top, they are already a different color. How much more separation do they want?
It is kind of irritating though that they want to allow some kind of tagging or something so that publishers can control what shows up in Google News. It sounds like news agencies and newspapers just want to dig their own hole deeper. It always makes me laugh when a newspaper tries to sell access to their articles, where you can read 1, and then they want you to either pay-per-view or buy a subscription to keep reading. They are dying because they don't understand the Internet nor have they faced the fact that they have to make ad-based revenue work. They simply can't make 50 cents a day off of every reader anymore, and they will only drive themselves out of businesses trying while independent news outlets take over.
As far as the rival search engines tagging their results to keep Google from indexing them to improve their own search results, I wonder if that goes both ways, also allowing Google to tag their results to keep others from indexing them. I would think that would actually hurt their rivals more than Google.
Semi-off-topic, but Bing is actually quite a good search engine today for people who want an alternative.

No, not only the payed advertisement on top. There seems to be proofs that some company appears on top in search results while others not purely due to a reshuffle due to google after some payment. Say your company appear first, I pay google, and suddenly you appear on the 3rd page. Also simply, why google products appear first even if they are not as widely used as concurrent services?
