Craigslist

How does the website work, in terms of development? Is it just PHP/HTML that creates links to pages created from new stuff getting put into the database and pushes it down the page? Is it really as simple as it seems? And a noob question, but how would I make a new link or even line of text and push the bottom one to a new page, or how do I even get new pages? Is it more like "get latest X results"?

I don't know how it works, but i sure know that i would do it like you say... Basic database with a table for the "ads", another for the users ofc, then to list them simple pagination script with simple select queries...

Yeah, I think Craigslist is pretty simple, really. The site definitely looks like a throwback to early-2000's webpages. When you go to look at a category, it groups things by day, up until a point where it will start to say "Last Week", "2 weeks ago" and then "Last month", etc. That can all be done in server-side logic.

Okay guys. Another question. Do odor think it would require a CMS like Wordpress? Or do it so creating an ad just creates a new row in the database with the ad info and on the category pages just pull them up? Also is there a tut for something that shows how todo the time thing where I can show say, all ads for last week and then click 'next' to not go to a different file/page but to refresh the page and show stuff from say 2 weeks ago. If that was clear :D

It's not needed a Wordpress like framework. I would create the row in the database with the ad info and the proper page display it.
The time thing, is a basic pagination system :) Where you LIMIT the results from the database.

Here's a basic one. :D

If you need more help i can give you (with halls permission) the source code for the resource website, that works the same way :)
Good Luck.

Wow... and i thought people would not use that... I don't think i would use anything besides Amazon... anything that is person to person is not trustworthy... I like to have a "big company" in front of me instead of a person. It may sound stupid and i will probably change my opinion based on experiences, but so far this is what i think...
