Has anyone else seen this? It is an HTML5 port of a project to create a free and open source version of Civilization (I believe it is closest to Civilization II). It has single and multiplayer, and many of the same features seen in the proprietary Civ series.

It is released under the GNU Affero license, so it would likely not be a good fit for a serious game (you would have to share your server code with anyone who asks due to the license), but it could help if you are trying to build a similar style game or just see how their game is made or structured.

Glad you like it! I am surprised this didn't get more attention here, as this is an open source real-time networked HTML5 game that works as well as a desktop PC game. Even if the source is a bad choice to directly modify for a commercial game due to its license, it is a very interesting read-through as an example project
