Can I ask for an Update on PHP version in a host?

Hey guys, so I'm upgrading my Job Application test, which is a website for selling things and services, it's going pretty well with Login with facebook, twitter systems, and so on, but It's all going good on the localhost, running Xampp latest version with PHP 5.5.x .. but once i host it on my host, some scripts just fail...
Things like
Code: Select all
$object->GetArray()["array_element_which_is_an_object"]->Function()
Don't work on PHP 4 for some reason...
The question is, I created a ticket asking for an update, is in my rights as a (paying) customer, to ask for such thing? If yes, and if they refuse, can I ask for my money back?

Is it in your rights? Yes, of course it is.
Can you ask for a refund? You could ask for one, what's there to lose by asking.
Will they give it? I doubt it.
Move to digital ocean, I've heard nothing but good reviews on it.

Woops, totally misread the original post. Heck yeah you should ask for the ability to upgrade or take your site elsewhere.

Hello Vitor,
Thank you for opening support ticket.
Please note that current Php version PHP 5.3.28 and you are in shared environment . An upgrade of Php to higher version is not possible since it will effect other sites hosted in the server.
So we recommend to upgrade your plan to dedicated server where you can install your own versions.
Do let us know if you have further questions or concerns over this.
Kind Regards,
Edwin

Ask for a refund then see what they say, if they say no then if you want dropout. Or you could use that site for other things just so you don't waste the your money and have another site for the PHP stuff on a different host?

I will drop out in the end of the service anyway, but will ask for a refund in the meanwhile and see what they say... It's a shame for the service imo, they should be upgraded allways!

Update:
Well it seems like this service is really done. I can't even answer the ticket, some time ago I couldn't even create tickets, their service just sucks so much I can't believe I'm with them since 2011... I'm just gonna let things slide till the end of the contract and just move..
Thank you for your answers

Reminds me of when someone asked Microsoft about gamers who didn't have online, and they told them to buy an Xbox 360. They basically said go somewhere else if you want a higher version, so fulfill their request
