Friends question

Dunno where to post this really. So here will do

Ok, question. How would you do a friends system?

would you either, add the friend and then send the newly added friend a notification that they have been added as one and let them decide whether they want to add you as a friend.

Or, send a request to become friends which can be accepted or declined. and untill it is accepted neither person appears on the friends lists.


discuss. other options welcome :p

I'd use the second option personally, where both people have to add each other to see the other persons info/online status. Otherwise, the friends list can be an easy griefing tool for people, depending on the game or w/e we're talking about.

well currently online status can be seen via profile page and member search and will be put on forums when i make them.

I am planning on removing it from member search as it was only put there to test it.

but i do agree with you on the griefing side. But i was mainly having its use so you can quickly see your friends online and (if a user sets their profile to friends view only) so they can view their profiles.

I am going to have to agree with D3luxe, the second option is much better. I wouldn't want anyone able to see anything of each others info until it has been confirmed.
