I was thinking you could have some dots in the center of the view, each of which corresponds to the top of the squares your standing on - that way you know where your standing, even when your looking forward. But because they are dots, you can mentally filter them out and see past them if you want.

Otherwise I find jumping like this very blind and not terribly fun - I don't have much idea where the characters feet are and dunno what's happening - so I don't enjoy it.
