Which do you like the most or are the most used to?

Re: WAMP v. XAMPP
For a full-featured website, XAMPP will save you a lot of time because it comes with more extensions and packages that you will have to install anyway (such as an email program).
However, I still choose WAMP just because it is basically the industry standard, and almost all books and tutorials assume that is what you use. So I guess I would say an experienced veteran web developer would likely be better off with XAMPP, but someone still learning should likely choose WAMP.

The book that I have uses XAMPP, if you have both, can you run them both simultaniously on the same computer?

Re: WAMP v. XAMPP
I am not sure, but I would think you would be asking for trouble. Both installation packages install some of the same applications, so there could be a problem. If you really want to change from WAMP to XAMPP to be on the same page as your book, it is quite easy to uninstall through the start menu. Just be sure to do it from there and not by uninstalling each component, or it will leave remnants behind that could cause problems. However, I have changed from XAMPP to WAMP with no problems by using their uninstaller, so it should be the same way in reverse.ZeroComp wrote:The book that I have uses XAMPP, if you have both, can you run them both simultaniously on the same computer?
EDIT: Out of curiousity, what book are you reading? If I remember right, I think PHP Visual Quickstart uses XAMPP. I just remember that there was one book that uses it, and that is why I started off with it.

I think it can be done, but you have to do some configuration changes - default installs will result in some conflicts.ZeroComp wrote:The book that I have uses XAMPP, if you have both, can you run them both simultaniously on the same computer?
