Angels & Demons (Movie)

Post by SpiritWebb »

So I rented Angels and Demons, the new movie with Tom Hanks...and I loved it. Though I will have to watch it again to completely understand everything that went on. Out of 10, I would have to give this movie a 6. The movie stayed going for 90% of the movie...never really slowed down enough to get bored with it.

For those that don't know what it is, here is the synopsis of the movie: (Copied from IMDB, and may contain spoil alerts):

When a murder of a physicist, Leonardo Vetra, finds a symbolist, Robert Langdon, and Mr. Vetra's daughter, Vittoria, on an adventure for a secret brotherhood, The Illuminati. Clues lead them all around the Vatican, including the four alters of science, Earth, Air, Fire and Water. An Assassin, working for the Illuminati, has captured four cardinals, and murders each, painfully. Robert and Vittoria also are searching for a new very destructive weapon that could kill millions. Written by XXDustfingerXX

Despite his notorious relationship with the Church, Harvard symbologist Robert Langdon is once again called upon to decipher the clues to a catastrophic conspiracy. The Pope has died, and before conclave can begin to determine his successor, the four preferitti (primary hopefuls for the papacy) are kidnapped. An ominous threat of their hourly demise, along with the complete annihilation of Vatican City, is issued as an elaborate revenge scheme for a persecuted group known as the Illuminati. With their meager time limit steadily counting down, Langdon, accompanied by beautiful physicist Vittoria Vetra, must travel throughout Rome to unravel the carefully hidden signs that will lead them to a terrifying adversary, a harrowing discovery, and the shocking truth. Written by The Massie Twins

The Pope died and the conclave has been called for. Four candidates were chosen. However, before the voting, the 4 candidates are killed one by one. The killer leaves clues that seem to say that he/she is from the Illuminati. Strangely though, the Illuminati was long thought to be extinct. Who is the mastermind? Who revived the Illuminati? What do they want? Written by Ryanking

After the death of the Pope, the conclave has gathered in a locked room to choose his successor among four cardinals named "preferitti". However the quartet is abducted by the Illuminati, a secret brotherhood that was supposed extinct. The symbologist, Robert Langdon, and the scientist, Vittoria Vetra, who had her powerful and dangerous prototype of antimatter research stolen, are invited by the Vatican police to help them in their investigation. They are received by the receptive Camerlengo, Patrick McKenna, and by the reluctant Commander Richter. They are informed that the Illuminati have promised to kill each cardinal every hour from 8:00 PM and then explode the Vatican City with the antimatter. Robert and Vittoria have a few hours to unravel the clues and discover where the lethal weapon might be hidden.

My recommendation, is to anyone who likes a good mystery, should watch it!

Is this movie a direct sequel to The Devinci Code? I know it was the author's follow-up, but didn't know if it was the same characters, or if you needed to see TDC first.

No, you dont need to see the DaVinci Code first. Though I had and loved it too...but it only has Tom Hanks in it. I didn't see any relation to the movies at all, except the history speaking...

Though its been a while since I have seen DVC and I have to re-watch A&D again to fully understand everything in it! But as far as a direct sequel, no, not that I saw...

Angles and Demo's is actually set prior to the events of DaVinci Code. The latest, and best book so far in my opinion "The Lost Symbol" just came out which is the true sequel.

A movie that you love gets a 6?

What kind of feelings would a 10 get from you? :D

Yes Angels & Demons was the first book written by Dan Brown, but since the Davinci Code was the first movie made they wanted this one to seem like a continuation. I went to the theater to see this as I did with the davinci code, I had already read both books prior to see the movies, in fact the only dan brown book I hadn't read at that point was Deception Point, which would also make a really good movie. Anyways, some of the changes that they made in the movie I understood, others I don't. Not to spoil the book, as I do recommend that you do read it, the movie left out a semi-important character. I say semi-important as the movie still flowed well without him, but I thought he added a little more dramatic flair to the story.

Dan Brown's latest book, The Lost Symbol, is also being made into a movie. I totally look forward to see it when it comes out. I read the book in 3 days, and for me thats fast as I'm a slow reader and most books take me several months to read. hehe the fastest I've ever read a book was one day, ofcourse it took me the whole day and I did nothing else but read that book.
