My WIP "Tribal Fury"

Have a project in the works but not much media? How about an idea you are turning into a project? Maybe a game design document you want to start with. This is the place.

My WIP "Tribal Fury"

Post by Rastan »

I have mentioned the project I am working on a few times vaguely around here so I thought I would go ahead and introduce it.

At the moment I am Calling it Tribal Fury. This game is still very much in the works but I will introduce some of what I have finished (or close to it)so far. After that I will update this post as needed and once I have some media that I am happy with I will add that. As said before, This game is still very much in the works and I'm sure some things will change.

For now tho:

Tribal Fury is a mostly text based PBBG centered around tribal life and pits a player against an evolving world. A player starts off alone in the jungle with almost nothing to call his own and from there through a series of PVE and PVP choices can go in many directions to better his situation. The environment is as you would expect very rustic, dangerous, and "do it yourself." There are a few story twists I won't reveal here(yet lol) to add some spice to the mix tho.

The heart of the game is centered around tribes. A tribe is similar to a guild concept where a group of players can set out to take their own piece of the fame and fortune available in the world together. Along with an independent series of personal advancement brought via a "choose your own adventure" style questing atmosphere a group of players in a tribe will be able to advance a tribe in the same fashion by grouping together and tackling the obstacles the world has brought against them. The tribal quests will take more time and character development and also offer better rewards that may be distributed through the tribe.

The tribes will also be able to wage wars against one another to claim the bragging rights of being in the top spots on the server and ,of course, the other spoils of war. Currently tribes can wage wars for a 24 hour period attacking players of a set opposing tribe and the winner is based on a point system that will, at the end of the war, decide the outcome and declare the victor.

Outside of the tribe there will be the quest system mentioned above and as before a passive player vs player combat system where a player can choose to attack other players at will for his own benefit. There is also a system where a player can rob other players of their precious currency if they haven't made it to the "bank" with it. This system in wars will also add to the spoils of war as players can choose to rob other players instead of attack for purely financial gain for the tribe.

At the moment I would consider this game Pre- Alpha. I have a basic running framework. I do not have a lot of the features implemented into that framework. I am also still working on the artwork that will be presented with the game. I have some done but I can barely draw stick figures on paper so keep that in mind when I provide some media lol.

Features(Broad Overview)

*System of different types of action type points to allow and control player actions(still being balanced)
*PVE story based questlines(In works.) <-- I keep playing with the story or this might be better off lol
*Passive PVP combat system(completed)
*Robbing some poor guy who didn't find the "bank"(completed)
*Tribal system(most features active some still being worked on)
*Player and tribal banks where items are interchangable between each(in works)
*Training system to advance player stats (still being balanced)
*Independent player messaging, game event message system, moderator help messaging system(completed)
*System of ensuring inactive players are still of worth to the game world as "farm" targets  (love it)
*Many others I'm not prepared to mention just yet ;)

That's about what I have now. Feedback is welcome. Questions are welcome. This is my first game so any real advice you that have put out games before have to offer would be awesome.

The environment is as you would expect very rustic, dangerous, and "do it yourself."
Do you have a sort of rustic crafting? As in find a stout stick, a couple of rocks and some vines or tough leaves, and you can chip one rock with the other, plat the vines, then make a stone axe? Or try to?

I really like right from the earth itself crafting. I find it grabs me since it draws on something that works in real life (where putting magic crystals into glowing swords...kind of not related to real life at all)

A crafting system is in early development. At this point I'm not entirely sure just what form it may take though. I myself am not a fan of non-realistic crafting, so the system should make rational sense(As far as is reasonable anyways). I actually in the beginning wasn't sure If I was going to include a crafting system but I found a nice little niche for it to fit in so at this point it is in the works.

I've been toying with the idea of farming different map areas for the materials and possibly having a system where materials gathered from the more difficult parts of the content can be used to make an item of greater power than the average item that a player will keep for the long run. The kind of thing that a player will have to work at for a good while before getting it . I think it will help serve to keep a player interested once all other game currencies for advancement have been spent.

It depends. It's just that always finding your gear on a dead animal or bandit (done in so many games) - well, who makes these things to begins with (let alone the question of how they lose them them to critters and such)? That they just seem to *poof* out of nowhere - well, some people and even magazine reviewers complain about pop up in graphical games, or clipping - to me, stuff just appearing *poof* is just as jarring as graphical glitches. Not that it's a big deal, but just describing it with a parralel. Also I guess it doesn't feel rustic when the local wildlife is the prime supplier of fine weaponry - it feels like a weird pinata land.

Ah, I'm just getting something off my chest about many adventure games - probably doesn't help. Good luck with the game! Is there anything specifically you'd like some careful thought and questions on?

Yeah at the moment my gear and training has a logical feel to it. It's not perfect but it's what I want I think.

I don't expect too much feedback at this point in time. Later I will probably release my first alpha on a free host and let the people here and some people who are interested tear into the game and see a bit better what it is about. I would expect feedback would be easier to give after seeing what my vague explanations are saying.

The second alpha should be after I have put all the facebook coding in and moved the game to it's final host. Then the plan is to do a little tweaking and enter a live running beta phase for a few months as the game takes off or whatever it's going to do.

Nothing is set in stone but for now that is the plan. Thanks for the interest.
