Alien Swarm-(Steam Game)
Alien Swarm-(Steam Game)
I recently got this game and I have to say its pretty fun but what is important it comes with the source code for it too! I have not yet been able to toy with it because I have been busy with the actual game, you can get it from steam and I highly recommend it.

While that is neat, does it come with a license allowing you to do anything with the code? If not, and the code is still considered proprietary, then any indie game developer may be better off not seeing it so that a connection could not be made between the indie dev's code and the Alien Swarm code (in the same way that movie developers don't want to read non-industry member's scripts).
If there is a license allowing an indie dev to use at least parts of the code, that would be a great learning tool, and possibly a good place to harvest certain systems or a framework from

Avoiding looking at it would just be avoiding possible unjust reactions from others.

Give up this freedom today, find yourself giving up another tomorrow - and so on. As far as I can tell.

Just tryin' to infect your brain with other thoughts...
On the actual game - I'm kinda reluctant to play it as I think games like this have no paralel in reality yet will certainly grab me like a flame grabs a moth. Possibly absurd of me, but I like my games like I like my movies or books - that have a little bit of reflection on reality (yes, that includes burn notice...)

Why would I want to infect my brain with other thoughts if those other thoughts could possibly get me sued?Callan S. wrote:Just tryin' to infect your brain with other thoughts...

Why would someone say better to die on your feet than live on your knees, if being on your feet can get you killed? I know, it's crazy!
