Forsaken Sanctum - Map Question

Post by ConceptDestiny »

Hi there,

I was to ask how you coded the map. Is it like 100x100 tiles, with creatures spawned randomly throughout?

Did you manage to create a form of admin-end which enables you create/edit realms, assign creature spawns and add dummy tiles to those realms? :)

Was also wondering if you had more information on the features of Forsaken Sanctum 1.0 features regarding...
  • • How does house construction work - if there are more than one type of the same building on the same square, is this, for example, what the "doublebank" image is for?

    • How does the guild system work?
I'd greatly appreciate if you could answer the above questions! :D

Thanks in advance,

ConceptDestiny

Well to find all of this out download the source code.

1. For the question on how the creatures were spawned and stuff if you look in the map table in the source code each tile is assigned a creature or no creature. You choose and change it in the mysql database you use.

2. The guild system is hard to explain but if you look in the tutorials section there is a question about it with a good answer.

3. No he doesnt have a page where you add realms. It's all done from writing php code

Hope that helps!!

sorry for my late response here, I have been real busy. Have had very little time for the forums....

sounds like you got all answered but as far as the guild system just look through the guild folder, it is all in there. I am working on finishing these videos this week.

Sorry to open this one up again, but I was wondering how you created new maps. I watched your tutorial regarding the creation of new maps, but I wondered how an earth they're structured in the database, and on the front end... would I have to create a new file i.e. newmap.php and include all the content of map.php and adjust it appropriately?

Also, how would a player transition from one map to the other? :/

Thanks in advance for any help on this!! :)

I actually went further in Forsaken sanctum 2.0 on map handling but its the same concept.

if you notice in the queries we pull select * from map where row=....

make a new field in player called map
then you would want
$map = $playerinfo3['map'];
select * from `$map` where row=....

then just copy the table map and name it something else, like your new map,

so lets say you wanted to create a new area called ruins

create a table called ruins that is exactly like map in the DB

make a location on the map like a store called Ruins and make a pic for it.

Make it where when a player clicks on the location, like a store, it goes to a page that says, "Would you like to enter the ruins?"

if they say yes then just update the players map field to ruins..so now when it pulls from the DB it will pull from ruins,

also make sure the entrance and the ext both exit to the right row and column.

I am soon to release Forsaken Sanctum 2.0 which has this in it. Plus many other new features including JS.

Superb! Thanks for the tips! :D

You have this on FS 2.0? :o Cool! I don't suppose you have any tutorials or videos for FS 2.0? ;)
