Board Game Project

Have a project in the works but not much media? How about an idea you are turning into a project? Maybe a game design document you want to start with. This is the place.

Board Game Project

Post by Ravinos »

About three weeks ago my gaming group and I started hatching a plan to craft our own board game. So far we have set up the type of game, the core combat system and secondary systems. This game, yet untitled, is set modern day with a Mafia theme.

Core Features:
Simple yet customizable combat system based on die rolls.
Player card decks that allow special events to take place.
A tile based board system with 2D randomization.
Territory control.

Eventually I'll be posting up pics as we prototype and test the game. Right now we are still working on how to do the board and players card decks.

I like the idea of a board game styled game. I also like the idea of a randomized map. Will this be a short turn based game? where it can last a few mins to a few hours or will this be a persistent game where it will continue on for weeks or months?

It will be turn based just like any other board game. We actually have plans for 2 different modes of game play. One that will take upto 4 players 2 hours or so to finish then a persistent RISK style rule set that could last weeks.

I did a bit of research and came up with no Mafia themed games like this. Would have been nice to launch this during the height of The Sapranos.

haha no doubt. Sounds great. Let me know when you get towards completion and I will see if I still have some connections in the business from the old days.

It's been awhile since my last update on this project. So far we have been working back and forth on the extra features to include in the game. The core system itself is finished i.e. combat, territory control, props and the npc/mission system.

The next big part we are working on is fleshing out the building locations. Stats, cost, bonuses, etc.

I will need be posting up a few photos once we add graphics to the game board.

I remember a link from years ago, a publishing house that took PDF's stored them and allowed users to browse their titles, give out direct links. If you wanted an ebook copy, you'd pay around $5 to $10 and the writer got 60% maybe more. If you wanted a printed copy, they'd send it to you, Europe and America, something like $25, the writer got maybe 25% (print costs etc)

but they also had board games, You could publish the game with them and give out links to the game. if you had the ability, you'd print your own PDF's onto cardboard, OR the publisher printed all sheet on card and sent it to you in the mail.

I wish I could remember the websites name.. but from memory it was a repeat of 2 letters, like gogo or wiwi or something.. Anyone else come across this?

If you find and publish it, would be great
