Was looking around some of the posts on FPS section and they seem pretty bland and outdated now. I was wondering if anyone has found any new engines that can be used for FPS games?

Honestly, it may be a bit more work, but if you are looking for a serious FPS engine, go for Unity. You will have to create a bit of the basic functionality yourself, but I could only imagine that the Unity forums are full of scripts for this extremely popular and (let's face it, compared to MMORPGs) very basic genre.
If you want something custom made for an FPS, beyond FPS Creator X10 or whatever it is called (which is the DirectX 10 commercial upgrade to FPS Creator), I really don't know much but haven't looked into it.

I also really recommend Unity. I started making a game in it and loved it, only to realize that I am awful at modeling, so I stopped that project :p But if you are even decent at modeling (which I'm not) I would strongly recommend using it.

Unreal is the best out there. Crysis is soon to be free and Source(Half life 2 engine) is now free.

Ahh, yes. I forgot about all of the "big dog" engines that have free versions now. I have not really looked into all of their licenses, though.

Do you have a link for Source? I cannot seem to find it, could be over looking it, but cannot find it. I tried "Source FPS engine" in google.hallsofvallhalla wrote:Unreal is the best out there. Crysis is soon to be free and Source(Half life 2 engine) is now free.

Thanks for the great replies everyone. I'm start this first project of mine as a hobby project, so nothing 2 serious or somewhat hard lol. I'll look at all the recommendations, I may just stick to fpscx10.
Edit: I might stay away from fpscx10, their forums are reporting TGC dropped support for the product and will only be updating the original fpsc

You get it through steam.
Re: Looking for a good FPS engine..
I continued doing a bit of research and I really like udk and unity, but I don't want to waste my time if im not going to be able to sell or publish a game. Udk is pretty cheap but the amount royalties is pretty crazy( unless it's that high for game engines) and I really don't know if I can Sell products with the free unity( probably can't) and the pro lincese is too expensive for me.
