A few days ago, it was revealed that Steam's forums had been hacked.
Apparently, it was more than just the forums:

A great demonstration of the wisdom of having multiple layers of data, with your userdata on top (i.e. closer in your infrastructure to the internet), personal info in the middle, and billing info hidden as far away as possible. This could have been much, much worse.

I never got the email notification "they claim" they sent out. One of the guys I work with has a steam account, and they didn't get the notice either...hmmm

My wife and her brother are on Steam as well and received no notification. This seems a little fishy.

I never got a notification either, but I didn't have any purchases on Steam until after this hack - figured that was the reason.

I haven't purchased anything on Steam either...though I do have Star Trek Online, but it was a gift. But still, you would think they would send a notification regardless...

I didn't get any notification. I have bought several games through steam.
