You should all be proud

Post by Jackolantern »

I just wanted to make a few comments about the community as a whole, and what an amazing community this is. As we head up towards the 3rd year of this community (as told by when Halls joined, in April of 2009), I was just reflecting on it.

This community largely has its roots in tutorials, since I believe that was Halls' main reason for starting it, but that mentality of sharing with wanting nothing back in return has spread far beyond the original video tutorial series. We have members writing-up and even creating video tutorials to share their knowledge with others. Few if any questions go without any answers or input. Even if no one knows the answer, you can basically count on someone at least pointing them in the direction they can get their answer. We have very few if any problems between members, because there is a mutual respect here that is few-and-far-between in most other communities, particularly indie game forums (which for some reason are often hot-beds of elitism, newbie-hating, etc.). It is a sign of the maturity of everyone here that we have an open Recruitment forum and it is not a source of really any problems (members of other indie game forums will know how amazing this is). We also have, at least for me, just the right amount of activity. There is almost always something to respond to, but it doesn't get so busy that people come and go that you never get a chance to interact with.

We are seeing members' games grow and prosper now, and some complex games have come out of this community. I have no doubt we are going to keep seeing many more, from ideas turn into playable, popular games.

So thank you everyone for being a part of this community, and for making it so great! Whether you are creating tutorials, answering questions, or asking questions, you are an integral part of this community (we wouldn't be here if no one had any questions!). I would say we are the premier web RPG/PBBG community out there (I have yet to find another one as vibrant as ours with as many resources), and I hope we can make the following years on Indie-Resource just as great! :D

I agree 1000%! We are coming up on our 40,000th post! I was just thinking about it today, where this community came from, where it has been, and what it has become. It is really amazing. I am proud to be a part of it. Just sorry I have been away these past couple weeks but I am currently working on with Chris a brand new look to the site and we are going back to our roots and making the site more resource friendly. It is amazing though how much these forums carry everything else. There is enough resource here to last a long long time and everyday more just gets added.

At an average of 50 posts a day that is more than perfect. I am currently waaaay behind on posts, nearly all the topics are lit up from where I haven't read them and i have a ton of un replied to messages I got to reply to but all in all I could not be happier on this community.

i have a ton more tutorials coming as well, node, socket.io, html5, more c# videos, more mmo tutorials, impact tuts, ect... Just got to find the time to get them all done!

Thanks for everything all!

I know that some of those other tutorial series are probably being looked forward to by more people, but I can't wait until you get some time to make the Node and Socket.IO ones. I have pretty much chalked-it up as being my best hope for real-time multiplayer web games lol.

When I get some free time I'll help out with node. It's all I've been doing at work the last three months, so at the very least I can get a "Node.js Resources" post similar to my python one going.

Also, I'm enjoying it here. Ya'll are doing a great job, and if there is anything else I can do to help let me know. I got my start in programming in a similar community and I like giving back.

Thanks! And yeah, a Node resource list would be great! It is one of the few platforms that I really can't find many good resources for. I would have to think there are some out there, though!

I agree, I've never seen such a group of helpful/nice people.

Without Halls tutorials, I think I'd still be in the stone age for PHP.

Without everybody on here helping me out, WarriorsRealm would still be a fantasy in my head. So thanks again, to everybody!
