Done with Windows

Post by hallsofvallhalla »

Our the past few months I have been building a hatred towards Windows and Microsoft in general. Between my windows phone dying and losing all my pictures, videos, ect.. the crappy Zune program you have to use, Windows 7 riddled with issues and the fact you play no older games without some kind of third party program, my laptop crashed, XP and windows 7 will not talk to each other over the network, Vista is just stupid, XP was great but hasn't been updated so not worth fooling with, Xbox ripping customers off at every turn, .NET to me is like hiring a elephant to water your garden....Just tired of it.

This weekend I lost 80% of my stuff on my laptop and 100% of my stuff on my phone.

Don't say Mac either. We spent 4 hours trying to get the players with Mac to even get a game compatible and working. I don't pay for hype.

Linux here I come I guess. :(

Well said Halls!

Windows Phone isn't all that bad though, my personal favorite smartphone OS.

I need to use IE for development at work. Too bad it messed up my registry, every time I open more than three tabs in IE on my work computer I get a blue screen. Gotta love how they can't even get their own software to run on their own platform.

Also another thing I hate about Windows OS's is the way they manage users. It's done wrong, Linux did it right.

I can rant on all day about Microsoft. Personally want them out of the market and to never come back. Anyone feel like making a decent operating system for phones?

PS. Did you hear? "Microsoft claims it took the controversial decision to remove the Start button from the traditional Windows desktop because people had stopped using it."

I think it's about time the people at Microsoft stopped smoking crack.

I am not a fan of Windows Phone 7 at all. I regret having gotten my Samsung Focus, and did almost from the beginning. I have lost everything on it also, and didn't find out all of my cloud backing-up did absolutely nothing, and was not there when I needed it until it was too late. And the generally low quality and quantity of apps is quite sad.

However, I don't think I could ever completely move away from Windows on desktops. At least not for a long time still. I tried going Linux, but found myself constantly having to emulate Windows, or when that didn't work, booting into the Windows partition of my hard drive. Old games don't matter much to me, as I honestly don't play games all that often anymore. There are definitely things about Windows that bothers me, but it is really a necessary evil these days. The overwhelmingly vast portion of software out there is for Windows, and that doesn't seem to be changing anytime soon.

My work PCs will remain Windows as well as my development laptop but everything else is going Linux. I am selling my Windows Phone this week.

I agree we are stuck with it...for now, but Linux is catching up and with Google working on the ultimate OS and a few others on the horizon we may see the fall in our lifetime :)

What Google OS are you talking about? Chrome OS was always meant for people who only use their browser on their computer, and Android is a mobile OS (although it is by favorite one).

hmm i read ad where they announced a full PC OS. That soon PCs will be shipped with google OS that is more than a web machine. Can't find the ad, it might have been fake and taken down but seemed real enough.
