I am going to be lazy, and instead of Googling, I will ask: What is Star Blazers?

Feel free to tell me I am a lazy bum and to just Google it, but I figured a fan would probably be a better source than the sterile, passionless pages of Wikipedia. 8-)

Well Jack, since you are too young to have watched it in the early 80's and probably too old to have been influenced by any revivals...

Its basically an allegory packed, Odysseus style journey, where the Earth is under siege by a remarkably good looking aliens who dress like romans. Everyone has been driven into underground cities and the alien siege has reduced the surface to looking like mars. A hulk of a sunken ww2 battleship (the Yamato) is secretly converted into a space battleship. It is launched, flights its way out of the blockade has lots of running battles against the alien Navy, led my some prince guy and eventually the crew gets to their homeworld, or to that of some lady... the three decades in between has dulled my memory some and I can't remember how she came into the picture. :P

Star Blazers was my introduction to anime and when I was about 10, it was awesome heaped on awesomeness; only to be topped by Robotech.

Sounds cool, and some searching on Google Images actually looks very familiar, although that could be a stylistic similarity to Gatchaman, which I watched all the time when I was younger :D

As a kid, I only remember the space battles and don't really remember much about the plots and story lines. The link I posted is for a live action film based on the cartoon. It is a Japanese film with English subtitles. The battles and CGI are what attracted me to the film.
