Earlier I did a search on what the oldest website still running today was, and found that the very first, info.cern.ch is still alive and kicking (CERN was the European physics lab where the World Wide Web was basically born in 1990). While the original pages from 1990 are lost forever (no one took any screenshots, and the data on them changed daily), there is a pretty interesting page archived here which is how it appeared in 1992. If you are interested, check out some of the "How to help" links, which were basically CERN folks asking for help from the developers at large at the time to create software to expand the Web. The list of things needed is interesting as you can see some of the things we know of the Web today forming. And then there are some weird things requested, such as clients that can generate HTML (although that could arguably be said to maybe be an early indicator of Javascript).
All in all, an interesting read and a step back to the beginning of maybe one of the most important projects mankind ever started.

Ahhh, CERN... imagine that the technology today has come from a company with very sinister plans for our world. Wouldn't surprise me that they would tap into a way to hypnotize entire populations. Interesting video here.
But I digress, it is very interesting that the internet has only been around for such a short period of time and look at where it all has gone today. Amazing.

True, for what it has done, it has not been around that long. It has seen amazing evolution in that time, starting from plain text in the beginning, and now with HTML5. But it has been some time: Next year will be 20 years since the Web came to the mainstream with the creation of the Mosaic browser (which also happened to be the browser that ended up naming Mozilla lol).
