Any Steam Users here?

Post by Torniquet »

Quick copy and past from reddit lol (cba re writing this)

Over the last month and a half (between work and playing games/being sociable), I have been working on a project to help gamers find people to play games with.
I would like to present to you, Steam Connect.
Steam Connect has been designed with one function in mind, to help you find other people to play games with. It is currently in an alpha phase, and needs to have all of the bugs squeezed out of it as well as some upcoming ideas to be put in.
When you sign up, your Steam account will be searched through and it will store all multi-player games you own and put them against your account.
From then on, you will be able to see other users who own the games you own. All you have to do is send the friend request and wait for the acceptance. The friend request is performed through the Steam App and no user profiles are displayed on the website, so steam app will be required to add friends currently.
It does not stop there though, a simple 'alert' system has also been implemented to allow you to make it clear that you want to play a game, not just any game though, these alerts are game specific. Let people know you want to play Portal 2 with someone, then anyone who owns Portal 2 will be able to see that you are looking to play it and send a friend request to you.
As stated before, the site is in an alpha phase. We want to expand the site to do more and want users feedback and input.
I hope some of you will join us and help the site grow into something amazing.

Just for clarification in response to anyone who chooses to point out posts can be made to forums etc
I know there are other places which assist with finding other players to play with, but I thought I would create something a bit more unique. The way I looked at the problem before I came up with a solution is this... I could make a post saying I am looking to play such and such game, watch it slowly slide to the bottom and get missed because other people are posting in the same place looking to play a different game or just not taking notice of my post. My solution is a simple alternative to the same thing you can do in many places, but rather than getting your requests lost in a forever moving forum, it keeps the user focused by focusing on the games the user owns.
