The most amazing combat system?

Post by Ark »

Hi guys here's a video of what seems a game in its pre alpha stage, it's currently being developed and they have a page on kickstarter.

Here's a video of the combat system.

Very cool, but man I don't like that name! I initially thought it was called "Sui Generic" lol

But the combat does look awesome! I do hope they are not going to go overboard with details, considering how detail-heavy their game seems already, but at least they have put in many of these crazy details on their own time before the KS campaign.

Yeah weird name. Don't know if you've visited their main video on kickstarter, it shows the whole world and editor. And appearently seems that he made the whole engine, not sure I wanna pledge :$

I would wait a bit and see how it goes. As the closing date gets closer, maybe they will show some more content or something. I will just say again I am worried they may get too caught up in the implementation and blow that $150k (provided they get it of course). They are using the $150k just to pay their own bills while their already developed team makes the game. But even that could only realistically pay 5 people for 1 year (and that is with a pretty bare-bones salary). $150k is nothing for a current-gen 3D game like this, and if they spend time on the the same brain-splitting details in the content like they did on the base engine, they could blow that money on just 2 or 3 quests. It is heartening that they got this far on their own, but there is a long, long way to go, as they are now actually working on actually creating the game, as opposed to simply making the engine. And games like this notoriously take more money than initially estimated.

Wow truly awesome but lets home they make the actual combat more realistic as I seen a ton of sword smacking but no blood or people actually hurt but it could be just demoing the Physics. Regardless looks friggn awesome.

The detail and world editor were freaking amazing! Wish Unity3d had that type of world editor, that would make terrain building so much easier and better looking!

Part of me lists how the 'pure physics' will be bastardized. Hitpoints, for a start - and a butt load of them, tons of healing potions with no cool down and probably no wait time on the heal. Because they aren't aiming at realism, they are aiming at looking at the fun parts of physics, sans the unfun parts of physics.

Trying to enjoy them in the realist way always tends to highlight to me the almost blasphemy of how physics gets bent to these meta game concerns.

In my opinion it is ok to try to offer more physical mechanics while still keeping fantasy and purely-game-driven mechanics in. In the end, gamers really don't want pure physics simulators, even if sometimes they think they might. Every time developers have tried to give them that, gamers usually ended up disliking aspects of it, saying it feels clunky, random, etc. On the other hand, however, it can be interesting and fun when a developer brings us a single new element of real-world physics that has not been seen in games before :)

I just don't like the use of the word 'realism' in what is a white washed, theme parkified version of reality.

With all the cognitive bias studies out there, people have enough trouble holding onto reality without sitting at something for hours, exposing themselves to something that looks close enough to lull (Phsiks!) but is not the case (physics).

I can see where you are going with this and I agree, it is like how every kid with a honda thinks they can drive fast because they can play Gran Turismo good when in actuality the "realism" is horrific. Sure it is a fun game but it is NOT like driving a real car.
